Meet Tracey Our Three Legged Deer

On Sunday afternoon, we looked out our back door and noticed several deer eating in our back yard. However, upon further inspection, we noticed that we had spacial need deer in the group. We decided to call her Tracey. She wasn't hampered in any way with her handicap.

Final Night Launch of the Space Shuttle

We decided to go down to Florida to watch the final night launch of the space shuttle. It was an emotional trip. We drove down Friday and spent the night in southern Jacksonville and continued down to the Kennedy Space Center on Saturday. The day held much promise for a launch the next morning at 4:39 am. The skies were a picture perfect blue. The air was cold but not cold enough to scrub the launch.
We arrived at the Astronauts Hall of Fame at 9:30pm and waited in a long line to be let in at around 10 pm. We quickly claimed our spot with our chairs and enjoyed the museum and took a short nap in our chairs. At around 3am, the announcer on NASA TV said that the weather people were watching a cloud bank that was coming in from the north. Sure enough, it rolled in and with the count down in a normal hold at nine minutes, NASA decided to scrub the Launch. What a let down.
Fortunately we found a hotel room in Port Orange about 40 miles away from Kennedy where we could rest and get some sleep. However, with the chance that the launch could get scrubbed again, I didn't rest well.
At 8pm Sunday Feb 7th, we headed back to Kennedy. This time we were going to the Visitor Center which is about 6 miles closer than we were the night before. The nice part of being here was that the IMAX theaters and the restaurants were open. This gave us something to do while we waited for the launch at 4:14 Monday morning.
We watched the skies as the clouds were still in the picture. We went back to our chairs at around 3am and rested. The announcer said that the weather team was optimistic that the launch was going to happen. We saw some clearing of the clouds every now and again, but the clouds would roll in again dashing our hopes. everyone watched with baited breath. This time during the 9 minute hold, every ones ears perked up when the weather team was polled to see if we were a GO for launch. A Cheer roared from the crowd when we heard "GO" from the team. The count down began again and the thrill started with a rush of adrenaline.
The video picks up the count down at 30 seconds left.
